The First Noel

No. 1 in Preludes with Carol Quotes

This is a majestic fanfare on the tune THE FIRST NOEL. The carol tune is immediately quoted in the opening pedal, which leads into a noble chorale melody. As in other pieces in the set, the tune is quoted in fragments, the next one of which is at the end of the first chorale section: "Born is the King of Israel."
